was driving home after work one day and sure enough
ONE BLOCK AWAY FROM MY HOUSE I got sranded. It
just died. Dead. Luckily, my neighbor and friend
has an LWB and a tow strap.
After some basic diagnosing I came to the conclusion
that I should replace the most likely culprits.
It is one of the smallest and least expensive
compents in the engine management system, and
when faulty can leave you stranded in the middle
of nowhere.
The "limp home mode" will not even
work in this case. The LHM is a fail safe in the
injection system designed to allow the car to
run even if certain main components should fail.
What were these nasty little culprits? The Main
relay and the Fuel Pump relay. They cost less than
$40 each (cheaper than towing), and simply plug
in like an extension cord. Be sure and get the
correct ones for your car as there can be many
types. Get a good brand from a reputable supplier,
and always carry spares. Because next time you
might not be a block away from the house.
