The Club President, Steve McDonald, began the meeting approximately at 7:30 with the usual club member introductions.
Past Events:
Gerald King and Paul Robinson took a trip to Colorado and Moab. They met up with several other off-roaders. Paul discussed the trip, which sounds like it went really well.
Upcoming Events:
Steve McDonald announced that Land Rover has created new stickers to celebrate its 60th anniversary. The stickers will be for sale for the price of $4.95 each.
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been scheduled for Saturday, November 15th. The Club will raffle off a refrigerator/freezer, as they have done in the past. Steve requested that Club members start calling sponsors to obtain door prizes. Before a Club member calls a sponsor, please check with Steve first so that there is no duplication. Trey Burns stated that he will contact Rovertym and Great Basin. Steve stated that Motorcars Ltd. has offered to donate a percentage of sales that HLRC members make back to the Club. Barbara Howell stated that she had sent the current membership list to Motorcars, but it was important for all members to show their membership card if they buy anything at Motorcars. Steve reminded the members that every time they buy something for their trucks from a vendor, they need to let the vendor know that they are a Club member.
Steve reminded people that the election for officers is approaching and that people need to decide who they want to run as officers. Lance Sloan and Barbara Howell will run again for their current positions.
Steve announced that the dealers have tentatively scheduled a dealer event for the first weekend of October, 2008. If a dealer event is scheduled for that weekend, the prior 2 Sundays before the dealer event will be trail clearing days at Columbus.
A monster garage has been scheduled for September 13th at Lance Miller’s business. A trail clearing weekend at Gilmer has been scheduled for October 18, 2008.
Rob Sturgess, Walter Light and Judith Nance were picked several weeks ago to perform due diligence for the Belize trip. Rob reported that the trip would take 18 days – give or take a few days and would cost each truck, with 2 people per truck, approximately $5,000.00. The $5,000.00 would cover gas, hotel, food, additional insurance, and tolls. Rob stated that by the date of the AGM, the Club needs a commitment from at least 5 vehicles in order to do this trip.
